Citizenship — what the regional office does with the application, and by when

Sent to the Ministry within 30 days of the day the application is filed

Applications for the grant of Czech citizenship filed in person at a regional office (in Prague, a district office of Praha 1 to 22). The office does not decide: it fills in the questionnaire with the applicant and sends the file, with its opinion and the municipality's, to the Ministry of the Interior.

“§ 21 odst. 1: "Krajský úřad pouze vyplní se žadatelem dotazník k žádosti a spolu s předloženými doklady a svým stanoviskem a stanoviskem obecního úřadu obce, ve které je žadatel přihlášen k pobytu, jej zašle do 30 dnů ode dne jejího podání ministerstvu; dotazník je uveden v příloze č. 2 k tomuto zákonu."”

Citizenship — how long the Ministry has to decide an application

180 days from the day the application is delivered to the Ministry

Applications for the grant of Czech citizenship (udělení státního občanství). You file in person at the regional office for your place of permanent residence; the 180 days run from the day the application reaches the Ministry of the Interior, not from the day you file it.

“§ 23 odst. 1: "Ministerstvo rozhodne o žádosti o udělení státního občanství České republiky do 180 dnů ode dne, kdy mu byla žádost doručena." § 17 odst. 1: "Žádost o udělení státního občanství České republiky se podává osobně u krajského úřadu, v hlavním městě Praze u úřadu městské části stanovené v příloze č. 1 k tomuto zákonu (dále jen „krajský úřad“) příslušného podle místa trvalého pobytu žadatele."”
